I wish we could find pics of well-bred European line ones...most circulating online are kind of mish-mosh breedings, loads of American blood (nothing against American lines, but they're not at all similar to these and therefore, I don't think the pics are any good for comparison. They wouldn't look like most of those dogs even if they were standard colors...)

Here's a pic of a blue sable I found...still can't picture Aria/Filius pups looking like this no matter what color they are............but I don't think this is a hideous animal.

Blitzen, you hit the nail on the head as to WHY I did this breeding. It was uncharted territory for me, but the consistency and strength of Ando/Cary really appealed to me. I'm hoping for the same consistency and temperament that Cary/Ando are known for. I was not expecting blue puppies, but hey, what fun is breeding if you always get what you expect, LOL!

Having Filius' dam imported for police work (yes, a Polish black and red FEMALE) adds to the strength- she wasn't just any old bitch bred to Ando because he was a big name. She pulled her own weight.  Filius was the breeder's pick of the litter and were I the breeder, I would not be disappointed! I absolutely fell in love with that dog while he was here. I'd be interested in buying any Ando progeny or dogs linebred on Ando if Filius is any indication of their type.  I saw a pic of Ando in his later years and thought it was Filius- I hope this prepotency carries over into this breeding.

Thanks, Deanna! I love my little thumbsucker. Heart BTW...he looks older than he is. He JUST turned 4. I don't want anyone thinking he's like 6 and I let him suck his thumb. I'm working on it......Red Smile

Jenni, my current GSD is fifth generation from my Cary daughter.  HOT and BHOT Sch3's, agility titles, UD's, CDX's ,herding titles,  PAM winners, therapy dogs, service dogs, never any bad hips or elbows far as  know, and wonderful temperaments (and even 2 AKC Champions LOL). She only produced 2 litters, both sired by the same GSL male. I just love these dogs, they are so versatile, they can do anything asked of them. Combined with outstanding working lines I am anxious to see how they turn out. I only regret I can't have another dog right now.

And, no, Jenni didn't ask me to say any of this.

5th generation? Wow, that's great. I don't know these lines well, so I asked people I trusted to give me feedback on the pedigrees of dogs I met that I liked. When I showed Filius' ped, everyone, and I mean everyone, said the same thing- Ando/Cary were great producers of driven, versatile dogs w/good health and excellent temperament. How often do you ask several people a dog question and get the same answer? Worst criticism I could find on Ando was too much angulation in certain offspring, but again, this is an outcross; I doubt Aria's pups are going to have too much angulation, and even so, if that's the very worst thing you can say about a dog, well, that's a risk I'm willing to take if the temperament is what I want.

I think in outcrosses, where people go wrong is where to go next. That can make or break it as far as whether it's deemed successful.  I don't have any illusions of saving the GSD in one generation. I hopefully have combined the best of strong genetics on both sides. Capri is strong in genotype as well as phenotype, so far as I can tell. I don't get many "wild cards" going back to her, even a couple generations removed. There are traits that still shine through very strong and many of her grandpups could pass for her pups. This is part of why I wanted a very strong, prepotent line to breed Aria to, because I knew it would take that to have much effect. These pups ARE different, thus far. I'm happy with their temperament. I see good things, so far, and they are definitely on the calmer and more biddable side of the spectrum though those same drives are there. I'm seeing very early focus on me as opposed to focus on each other and play objects. Biddability and attentiveness are very important to me and something I'd like to improve in Aria. Her off switch is second to none, when you consider her level of drive. Hopefully, Filius will increase biddability. Aria isn't particularly disobedient, but she has a bit of a diva complex that her mother does not have at all. That was a common thread in the A litter and not my favorite trait. Comical and entertaining at times...the "Moi?! Surely you cannot be serious!" attitude of a few of the girls can be a bit irritating at times. While not particularly bad, it's not necessary and not beneficial.

Blitzen and I do not always see eye to eye and she's never been shy about speaking her mind...I should hope no one thinks I've put her up to anything she's said. I honestly find her input even more valuable based on our history and the fact that she is a poster who holds true to her beliefs regardless of popularity.

That is a great image of a Blue Sable LC Jenni. Further back on this one below it is All WGSL/and some DDR
I finally found a Blue/Red, But longhaired. Most are, as was said on here hardly noticeable as adults. You have the advantage you can place them next to each other & take pictures. The first image of them all together is great and shows the color well. With digital pictures now really people should share nice images. No excuses for tongue out and such anymore. I can't hardly tell with these below, but they are listed as Blue/Reds

Puppy pics are easy.......it's trying to show people what they might look like as adults I'm finding challenging. I think I will be referring them to go see their half brother in person at training, LOL. I don't *think* any of the blues are coated. I can't imagine them being that awful looking, really. Heck, if I were in the market for another pet (I say pet because they still are not standard) I wouldn't be afraid to be seen with one. They should have the same physical type as their parents and color shouldn't be THAT bad, especially with the red as pretty as it is on both parents. Filius has gorgeous pigment and Aria has a hefty dose of red in her, as well, though it's more seasonal.

I took a little video of them when I was changing their bedding- they were not quite coordinated to navigate the slippery floor.  http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=H_SLUcfuoWY&feature=youtu.be

They are beautiful. The one you question does not look like a coat to me. Doesn't have the look to his face.

Have bred dogs who were linebred on those dogs several times before. (Looking at the line breeding on the sire, have not had the Ando line but the dogs they are linebred on are common ones.) Never had a blue or liver or dwarf.    Believe Uran was rumored to throw blues and dwarfs. Looking at the sire's linebreeding, Karina is a Uran daughter. The sire is 2x Karina.

I get excited when I see a litter bred on Ando. I guess I'm prejudiced Wink Smile.

 Noisy little guys, aren't they?

They're not always quite that loud; I woke them up and I stole their blankets. They were not happy. The one who climbed out is my favorite.Heart I'm not surprised she'd be the first to escape. She's my little princess; she's the smallest. She's only behind in weight. Teeth Smile
