I don't know about that but here to me is a "real" GSD probably without much formal training. I guess because this dog wasn't trained he probably isn't much of a "real" GSD. http://www.foxnews.com/us/2016/05/13/brave-family-dog-takes-rattlesnake-bite-to-protect-7-year-old-girl.html

@mithuana yes I have two young males from Von bismack and they are truly civil dogs and over the dop defensive and yes that's what I prefer and perfectly capable of controlling...I think he breeds specifically for that and most dogs he produces aren't the prettiest or suited for sport but unbelievable big and civil , guess living in lasi Romania you have to have a real dog lol , I also think it has to do with the old style of raising dogs and training them , they haven't been pussified like us or the rest of the western world yet and don't turn dogs to therapy dogs or let everyone pet the damn thing or buy Michael Ellis DVDs on how to ruin a good dog

Yeah he uses a lot of Czech blood. I think lot of Czech blood was used in Romanian LE/Military during the communist era. Shawnicus there is a very civil 1 yr old Bismack female ( I think 5-5 on Cordon ) available in NY. The owner toled me most rank and file trainers don't know how to train these type of dogs.

Susie
Just I think most women prefer and would have experience only with

(unacceptable language) (put an end to it) type GSD

@mithuana I believe I know that sable young female lol havent seen or heard much about it except it's a bismack dog , have you seen it in person ?

Mithuna, you are sexist, biased individual. Your dog won't even pull into a prong according to you...sounds like you have one.

Shawni

No, but spoke for about 30 mins with owner through a friend who knows him.Could have gotten her but it might not work out with two females in house.

Joan , it's it is what it is , most women aren't capable of having dogs like that and they shouldn't either , not doing the breed any favors if you're gonna turn a dog with potential into a house dog and whenever he growls at someone you yell at him? I say this cause I know someone whose done it . Get a corgi or something and don't ruin the breed more than you've oready done cause the average breeders wanna sell pups to people like you , so they breed sable Labradors

Joan is it a prob if I give more credence to opinion from persons like Gustav, Duke, Prager, Gee, BM, Yogi dog, Slamdunc, Chip Blasiole than Susie, Jenni, Joan, Nans, etc?

I like Hard and Civil dogs. However, reading forum posts (not just this forum, others also) it appears some people have different definitions of both 'Hard" and "Civil" than I do.

To me a Hard dog is one who takes adversity in stride and recovers quickly. The adversity could be a correction, walking accross a bridge, first helicopter ride, falling out of a boat, getting kicked by a horse or anything that is scary/unusual/unpleasant/demanding. If the dog deals with it and carries on without losing enthusiasm then he is "Hard".

My defination of a Civil dog is one who will engage (bite) a human.

So, I like a dog with a combination of traits who takes life in stride and is willing to fight a person ("Hard" and "Civil").

A dog can be Hard but still have good Pack Drive/Bidability. A dog can be Hard but still care very much about pleasing his handler. Hard dog's that don't give a hoot about the handler frusteate me and I personally don't like them. Handler agression is not the same as being Hard. In fact, a Soft or sensitive dog can be handler agressive.

Being Civil doesn't mean having a hair trigger. The threshold where a dog decides on his own to engage is a different temperament trait from the Civility itself. Personally, I like a dog who isn't easily provoked (kind of ties in with being 'Hard'). Being Civil also doesn't mean the dog will stay in a fight. The willingness to commit or 'Fight Drive' is a seaprate temperament trait from just being Civil. I like a dog that not only is willing to engage, but will also stay in the fight (again, this ties in with being 'Hard')

With that said, there are no perfect dogs. Always there will be some trade off's. If a Civil dog is also handler agressive then I'll accept it. If a Hard dog need harsh correcions to make an impression and folks around me think I'm abusive then I'll deal with it, etc.
