Recessed Vulva in adult German Shepherd - Page 1

Has anybody had to have surgery for their adult German Shepherd for a recessed vulva? If yes, was dog in a lot of pain after operation? And what was total recuperation time?

I can't help you with this problem. This issue is usually resolved by the female going through a heat cycle, have never known of one that wasn't. It's important to emphasize this with the puppy buyer since so many vets put pressure on people to spay early.

Not an uncommon condition in females of any breed that is spayed prior to the first heat, as gsd39mr mentions.

Haven't had it done on my own dog, but have seen a fair number of them done, and while there is going to initially be some discomfort post-op, the operating veterinarian should provide medication to control pain during the healing process.

The degree of discomfort the dog will have for a short time after the surgery is nothing compared to the constant pain that urine scald and bacterial infections that develop in the damaged tissue will bring her over the course of her lifetime.
