Hi just looking for a critique on a 13 month old male.

by NigerDeltaMann on 10 August 2012 - 22:08

From his overall appearance, i'd think he's north america or canada, except that he has a slight arc back onlike the sinkline back characteristic of that region's gsd. Head is small for his size and seemed too pointed. Otherwise, he'll grow into a masive male. His head may sometimes develope to be proportional to it's body. I guess he'll into an over-sized, strong and muscular male. . . A wonderful male.

Are all pictures of same dog at same age ?!!!! There is a lot of difference between picture number 1 and picture number 3. Any photoshopping !!

All same dog over a month span,,, first picture his choke was being held maybe tighter ,,,, no photo shopping what so ever :) Actually I don't think a show photographer will photoshop the dogs any,,, think it says it on their sites even. :)

Picture 1 would been taken may 20th picture 3 was taken June 30th. He turned 1 on June 18th.

this might be a better gait but I only have the proof

Hi and thanks for the explanation

As a matter of fact he has a better front reach than one would think looking at his front upper arm in first picture.
My critique based on 3rd picture:

Black and tan GSD male of good type, medium strength, above medium size, good overall expression and good proportions; height to length and chest to leg. Head a bit small and muzzle a slightly long, good eye color and shape, nice dark mask and good carriage of ears. Beautiful strong neck, high withers, beautiful topline, slightly short and slightly steep croup, good tail and tailset. Good hind angulation, strong hocks and tight feet. Slightly short and steep front upper arm, good lay of shoulder blade, good strong pasterns. A beautiful boy. In first picture front upper arm looks very steep and he lacks fore chest development.

 Hi,
The 1st. picture:- Showing a dog being forced
and is resisting in the stack. this affects the assessment
as the bones are pulled out of their natural position.

A good size young male ,medium strong,
of very good proportionsand good type.
He has a very good expression,
but the muzzle and lower jaw could be stronger.
He has a short elegent neck ,( almost like a dobe being posed.)
Good withers,a firm back, with a short and steep croup.
Good front angulationsbut the upper arm is short and steep
and deep hind angulations.
The dog  good depth of chest with very good length of fore leg.
Stands strait in front.

I would expect this dog to gait as the dog in picture no.2.
where the reach is short ,due to the upper arm and
lacking drive due the croup.

The photo no.3 shows a dog ,stacked correctly.
Very relaxed , with a very much better structure.
I would expect this dog to move as the dog in the last photo.
Which has better reach and very good drive.

Thanks for the replies. I find really interesting the opinion changes in the 40(ish) days between the pictures. :)

I'm really sorry, if you think so Apsel.
You don't need 40(ish) days, all you need is half an hour.
First you need to know what the photo of the dog is showing you .
you then need to know what is right and what is not right.
For your info, reason why the experts practice
and train to stack their dogs properly,
is to ensure their dog is presenting the correct picture to the judge.

IN your case in  the first picture ,I get the impression that the handler
had no clue on how to stack the dog.As such  the good points looked bad.
And the dog looked as if it had more bad points than good.

Since you only wanted an opinion,
you must be very happy with the many you got.

I honestly think you misunderstood what I was trying to say. By the change in 40ish days I ment in the dog meaning his 2 may pictures and his 2 june pictures were both matched up in the critique. I was in no way complaining am very new to dog shows. In fact  5 shows total. And as you said I asked for a opinion and I said thank you for them.
