A sad and stupid story about a Police K9 being ignored, misused or abused after retirement which resulted in the dog's death ( death by human ) and an injured man supposedly trying to help the dog that was a stray .. there must be more .. much more .. to this story.  Many Police K9 are weaponized dogs and supposedly "officers" in the legal statutes .. how does this happen and how does a retired " K9 officer " end up loose and wandering the streets???  Stories like this are exactly why I no longer want my dogs to enter military, police, or government work as they are often treated like a piece of equipment and discarded when injured or too old to work.

Given the timing it may be that fireworks were involved in the dog being loose or as the trigger for the dog biting incident.

This is sickening...pathetic

There was a recent case in Georgia I read about the other day. A retired K9 officer charged with killing 3 dogs, 2 of which I believe were retired police service dogs. What is up with that?

As is often said ... a pattern of actions and contempt for the law and the animal's well being.  This is what makes having one set of laws for cops and the rich so dangerous.  They start believing that the illegal things they do are OK because of who they are.  This "cop" and his wife were doing a lot of things because he was a cop and had special priviledges "supposedly".

https://www.washingtonpost.com/news/morning-mix/wp/2016/07/06/when-a-k-9-died-its-handler-seemed-distraught-but-then-investigators-dug-up-his-back-yard/

It seems that a police dog is an "officer" if anyone other than another "officer" kills him/her and then it is OK ... one set of laws for cops and the rich and one set of laws for others outside the gang.

Terrible outcome to an individual situation. How this is blown up into how police K9 are treated is beyond me and against what I have witnessed. Most K9 are treated more like family than property. the conclusions that BBBB jumps to are BS. The ''one set of laws for cops'' mentioned above certainly did not protect those brave men and women in Dallas yesterday. Is it not ironic that they were shot while protecting citizen's rights to protest and assemble? BBBB get a life

Thumbs UpThumbs UpThumbs Up student

Police officers, scientists, veterinarians, plumbers, teachers, nurses, surgeons, whatever ... - all of them are human beings - that said some of them will fail, and in the worst case someone else will suffer - that´s life.

Right now there is a witch hunt without any background informations.

- A former police dog got lost? A lot of dogs get lost. You never lost your dog? Not even for some minutes?
- Someone was bit? What did the human do? Maybe tried to catch a strange dog?
- A dog was buried in the backyard? What do other people do with their dead pets? Anybody wants to dig in my backyard?
- A dog died in a car? That happens more often than all of us want to know...( stupid humans ...)

Cops claim police K9's are "officers" so if a cop murders his fellow officer do they get the same punishment as a citizen or criminal who runs over one with a car by accident??? Cops want to have it both ways ... break the law with impunity while killing others for the same crimes and then claim special privileges because they are cops. The public has seen and had enough. A citizen who runs over a police K9 is held to a higher standard of conduct than if it was a "civilian" dog. A cop shoots a citizens dog in his own back yard while trespassing and without a warrant then no problem but if a citizen shoots a "police officer K9" trespassing in his own yard or property then it is a police officer homicide. One set of laws for cops and citizens equally enforced. That is what the public demands and if a cop is killing police dogs through negligence or murder he must face the same justice as a citizen doing the same deed. The latest in Dallas is tragic except that cop snipers and officers have killed plenty of people when it was not necessary or legal .. just because they could and they were cops. See the link below about how police SWAT teams routinely murder animals and people from a retired police officer.

One set of laws equally and fairly applied to all regardless of wealth, race, gender, religion, or politics.

Bubb consistently come across as an ethical guy.

It's good that things are questioned and not merely accepted, that's how things in general improve, cynicism is healthy.

Keep on questioning Bubb.

ethical? I can not tell by these quotes. Inteligent? maybe. but jumping to conclusions from limited edvidence is not inteligent.. Making a blanket statement against a group of people is not ethical. I will tell you what I think shows ethics. Going to work on a day where you know you are protecting people's [ Americans] right to protest. It is showing up to protect these people when you know they are protesting against the police and their actions. Protecting those people in Dallas TX is one really strong show of ethics. God bless our LEO!

The OP was that the police don't even follow the laws in how they treat their own police dogs.  They have special laws for police dogs making them "special" and then don't follow them with several K9 officers killing their own dogs intentionally or by neglect as well as using abusive training such as kicking their dogs.  The cops have had the benefit of always telling their story for their own benefit usually filling it full of lies or half truths and never having their BS even questioned. Then the digital video camera came along and showed the public the truth. We all learned the truth when phone cameras started being used to catch cops in the act of committing crimes for anyone not wearing blue. Before the camera phone the cops just lied as a matter of normal police gang activity. When cops stop acting like a unionized gang serving their own self interest first then the public may regain faith in the "peace officers" but so long as they lie, frame, distort, and repackage the truth to suit their personal agenda the police will continue to lose the faith and confidence of the public. The entire Dallas story was distorted by the police and continues to be spun into some Black Panther multiple sniper terrorist plot instead of what it was ... a single disgruntled shooter. Reports of 8 dead then less ... snipers, etc. all were leaked to the press by the police purposely. The Dallas cops ran around like a chicken with it's head off and ended up using what the cops always do in the day of SWAT and tanks ... military tactics on civilian populations. The cops protect themselves every day by allowing the rotten eggs in their midst to continue to police and apparently allowing them to become supervisors and leaders within the police forces. Using a bomb and a robot only intended to kill a suspect is a tactic that should not be allowed or used because it will lead to more of the same from some of the other insane and murdering police force members and departments. While the Dallas cops were trying to hide their incompetence and failures by blaming the deaths on a pair of Black Panther snipers that never existed it is worth noting that the police used bombs and snipers on black protesters and Black Panthers on a number of murderous military actions when the Black Panthers actually existed .. it seems what the police have dealt is coming back home in many places. It is worth noting that the KKK membership was never bombed or killed by snipers despite killing many thousands of blacks and other people in the post civil war to present day era probably because the KKK had cops in the organization locally everywhere. The police in many locations operate as an organized gang paid for by the state or local government and in many places they do not follow the laws they are sworn and paid to uphold unless convenient. When the cops stop protecting the killers within their ranks and obey the laws they are paid and sworn to uphold the public will support them. One set of laws applied equally and fairly for civilians, military, police, rich, poor, men, women, all genders, all races, all religions, and all politics. Dallas Texas was never safe before, during, or after the latest events for many peoples.
