Finally found a forum that has a lot of active members, and proffesional help, with great topics.
I have a GSD, and a Lab.  Hubby has a Blue Tick Coon Hound.  My Shepherd, Luke, is not registered,
but that doesnt affect his intelligence.  I got him at 8wks, and have been training him for a year and a
half. I've done a lot of reading, but love to learn all I can. I'm training him to track, and he is good at it.
We still have a long way to go of course.
Just found out the other day that my Lab would probably have been better at tracking due to her high
drive to play. But she's 8 now, so we'll just stick to our usual playtime.
Luke has good play drive, but not as much as others I've seen. He loves to work though.
Hopefully, I'll be able to get a picture or two on here.

Your dogs are NEVER too old to learn something new and training is absolutely FUN for them and keep them YOUNG...Your 8 year old would probably love to learn tracking and would give him something to look forward to do with you...

The main thing with our dogs is to have a Great BOND and training is a super great way to make that bond even stronger...

Welcome to the PBD...Good luck with your training...
