I have had a couple GSD’s and will not own a different dog.  My first was a female with West German show lines on the sire side and Czech working lines on the mother’s side (newspaper dog.)  She was a medium drive dog with a lot of ball drive and for me was the perfect dog.  My current GSD is a 3 year old male West German show line dog with a decent pedigree. (Titled V/VA grandparents)  He is a lot of fun, but not quite high drive enough for me.  He will work but only when he wants to work and for how long he wants to work.  My female was a lot more serious more focused dog?

I am in the market for another GSD and don’t know if I can handle and a full working line dog, but my experience so far with a show line dog is not what I am looking for in my next purchase.  My question; what kind of drives can expect from show line dog with titled parents?  Is it hit or miss with show line dogs when it comes to working ability?

While it can be hit or miss, your best bet is to study up on which kennels breed showlines for working ability first and conformation second.

As someone with over 25 years' experience with German show lines, I'd say that yes, it's more likely to be hit or miss than not.  It can also be hit or miss with working lines to a different extent and for different reasons.  My suggestion would be to find a club near you, tell them what you'd like and ask if you can come out and hang out and watch.  After some time being around the dogs and the club members, you'll get a better idea of what sort of dog you're looking for and the people in the group will learn to trust you enough to help you go about getting that dog.  In what part of the country are you?

I live in Utah, I trained with the local schutzhund club with my female, however that club does not exist any longer and my male is not exactly schutzhund material.

I want a show line dog but with good working drives.
