Hello To All Pedigree Database Admins & USERS

Why has Pedigree Database (PD) lost popularity amongst the younger generation ?

Is it Facebook ? Maybe Yes!

Also due to rise of sites like Winsis who provide show results from all over the world.

My Question to the admins is, (not sure if Oli still is the Main Guy)

I've been a PD user for almost 2 decades and i still am and it's sad to see the website lose popularity which at one time was Number 1 All Over The World! At least when it comes to German Shepherds!

Why can't have the Facebook Page for Pedigree database updated regularly ?
The page has merely 1600 likes and hasn't been active since 2011!

Don't you think with just a little push this site can return to its Old Glory ?

It is such a useful tool and the way in which it portrays Pedigrees is like no other!

A Forever PD Fan

Anu.

The Pedigree Database is still very active and popular.  The Admin are working on many dogs everyday checking for information to be corrected..

The member forum is very active too with posts from members.

Oli is the owner of the PDB site.

Honestly do not think improving the presence on FB would lead to increased use of the webpages !
FB is anyway already becoming 'last year's thing", with the rise of Watsap or whatever its called; many of us PDB 'old faithfuls' are not in the market for constantly chasing from ap to ap.

The forums are a lot less active due to many many troublemakers being banned. Used to be nothing but nasty fighting now any comments are mostly respectful.
The pedigree section is still very very active and that's what PDB is all about, the classified section is busy too. We are also constantly approving new members. Please do not judge activity/popularity here by forum use.

Let's not let this thread turn nasty please.

That's the thing, in order to keep a forum active you need a little bit of drama. Just the right amount to make people come back but also not to the point where people are being harassed on the daily. It's the same with facebook groups. If you completely crack down on people, the groups die. If there is just a wee bit of interesting drama here and there, it keeps the group growing.

Another thing is, most dog forums run it's course. There is only so much people want to discuss the same old thing over and over and over again. It's been rehashed a gazillion times.

Personally, I love Pedigree database to keep all of my dogs pedigrees online and to test out various pedigree combinations. I'm on the page on a daily basis, I just don't really post anymore except for maybe sharing some progress of my dogs.

I can do without the drama. I quit another forum because of the nastiness. This forum has been pretty safe over the years, with good information and a variety of viewpoints, so I keep coming back/posting on the forums. The database and ads have also been useful. I wouldn't have been able to verify information in my puppy's pedigree before purchasing without PDB, and for this, alone, the site is well worth it.

A bit of 'drama' and disagreement, and a fresh look at much-covered topics is one thing; and the natural turnover of people posting regularly over a number of years and then drifting away can ensure we get that, but trolling and being rude, insulting and nasty are unneccessary in any circumstances. Good on the Admins for keeping that to a minimum.

As a member who uses the forums for 'chatting about dogs' (and trying to make information and my long experience available to others), rather than doing much registering of pedigrees, I value these pages, and appreciate contacts made. But am aware that it is the advertising and record-keeping facilities PDB offers so many other people that keep it going ... and if Oli & the Admins (sounds like a band !) are happy that those parts are successful, then so am I. Even if there are occasional down-turns in 'chat room' usage ...

Agree that a little drama is okay but not the way it was a few years back. Thumbs up to the commenters!

Lenny, there's another GSD forum that's quite busy. It's the novices, asking the same old questions that keep it busy:

Does my dog look fat?

Is my dog purebred?

How much should I be feeding my puppy?

So, don't knock the 'novice b.s.'

I for one, don't miss the nastiness there used to be here!
